Douglas County, Georgia – A 32-year-old man, Jeffrey Pharr, was convicted this week for the fatal assault of an elderly individual. The charges against Pharr include malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and obstruction of an officer. The incident occurred on July 8, 2021, when the Douglasville Police Department responded to a disturbance at a transitional home shared by multiple residents.
According to officials, the owner of the home reported that Pharr, a neighbor living in the same residence, had attacked another resident inside the home. The altercation escalated, leading the owner to the garage where he witnessed Pharr repeatedly kicking the 76-year-old victim. Despite Pharr’s attempt to dissuade the owner from calling the police, the owner saw Pharr stomp on the victim’s head multiple times and decided to alert the authorities.
The victim, who suffered severe injuries including bleeding on the brain, was rushed to Grady Hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds. When police arrived at the scene, Pharr was uncooperative and a struggle with officers ensued, resulting in his subsequent arrest.
Following a trial in Douglas County, Pharr was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. District Attorney Dalia Racine expressed satisfaction in the verdict, stating that it sends a strong message that acts of violence will face repercussions. Racine also extended her condolences to the victim’s family, emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for heinous acts.
