Paterson, New Jersey – A 25-year-old man from Paterson, New Jersey, was taken into custody after allegedly attacking two on-duty firefighters in a violent incident early in the morning on March 2nd. The Paterson Police Department responded to a call regarding an aggravated assault at 169 16th Ave, where it was reported that two Paterson Fire Department EMS personnel had been targeted.
Earlier that morning, the EMS personnel had responded to the address to assist a person experiencing breathing difficulties. The EMTs attempted to transport the individual on a gurney out of the building, but the situation quickly escalated when the person demanded to be removed from the gurney. Subsequently, the suspect became physically aggressive, assaulting the EMTs before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, the two injured EMTs were transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. A thorough investigation led to the arrest of Darian Jackson, Jr. the following day. Jackson was charged with two counts of third-degree aggravated assault in connection with the attack on the firefighters.
Paterson Police Officer in Charge, Patrick Murray, expressed his disdain for the attack, highlighting the firefighters’ commitment to helping those in need despite the risks they face. If convicted, Jackson could face up to five years in prison and a fine of $15,000 for his actions. It is important to remember that all individuals are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, as charges represent accusations and not definitive proof.
