Pasadena, Texas – An 83-year-old man who was accused of shooting someone at Pasadena Memorial High School in February has passed away. Dennis Erwin Brandl Jr. died on Sunday, following medical treatment at Ben Taub Hospital. Brandl, who had been released into the care of medical providers, was no longer in police custody at the time of his death.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office had requested to dismiss the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge against Brandl after he experienced a medical emergency. This development came after he allegedly entered Pasadena Memorial High School during a Texas Color Guard Circuit drumline competition, claiming he was being pursued and in fear for his life and his wife’s safety.
Once inside the school, Brandl reportedly fired at least one shot at a male victim, who was confirmed to be a technical consultant for the high school drumline. Quick-thinking parents intervened and managed to subdue Brandl before causing further harm. Several parents, including individuals with law enforcement and military experience, worked together to apprehend Brandl.
