Yarm, England – A man named Jordan Kelly has been sentenced to four years in prison for a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. The incident took place at a block of flats in Yarm, where Kelly’s ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend resided. The court heard that Kelly, armed with a knife and in a drunken state, went on a rampage, making death threats, and physically assaulting the man.
According to prosecutor Kevin Wardlaw, Kelly’s relationship with the woman, which lasted for about seven years, was described as controlling and mentally abusive. It was revealed that Kelly would often threaten the woman with a knife, indicating that he would kill her if she tried to leave him. The situation escalated on September 8th when Kelly confronted his ex-girlfriend’s new partner, a friend of his, at the man’s flat.
During the confrontation, Kelly threatened to kill both the man and his ex-girlfriend, brandishing a 10-inch blade against the man’s neck and physically attacking him. The court heard that Kelly punched the man repeatedly, causing him to fall to the ground, and even attempted to bite him. The prosecutor stated that Kelly’s actions reflected a desire to cause significant fear and inflict serious harm.
Following his arrest, Kelly continued to display aggressive behavior by pushing a police officer against a wall and attempting to kick him. Despite being subdued with incapacitant spray, Kelly remained defiant and unremorseful. His ex-girlfriend described him as “obsessed” and instilling fear in her.
As both victims recounted their ordeal in court, Kelly displayed a lack of empathy, rolling his eyes, shaking his head, and smirking. The judge presiding over the case, Recorder Melly KC, characterized Kelly’s actions as a prolonged and persistent attack involving a highly dangerous weapon. In addition to his four-year prison sentence, Kelly was issued with an indefinite restraining order for both victims.
