Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala – The accused in the Kerala mass murder case, Afan, revealed to police that he took the life of his girlfriend because he believed she would not be able to cope with being alone without him. This chilling revelation came to light as more details emerged about the case in Venjaramoodu on Saturday.
Following the gruesome killings, Afan walked into the Venjaramoodu police station and turned himself in. Subsequently, he ingested poison in an attempted suicide and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his condition has since improved, leading to his formal arrest and interrogation by authorities.
Law enforcement officials in Kerala disclosed that financial burdens were suspected to be the driving force behind the heinous acts in Venjaramoodu. Reports indicated that the accused had accumulated a substantial debt totaling ₹65 lakh owed to 14 creditors, prompting a tragic turn of events in his family.
The troubling events transpired on February 24 when Afan allegedly ended the lives of his 88-year-old grandmother, 13-year-old brother, girlfriend, paternal uncle, and the uncle’s wife. Police chief Sudarsan K S of the Thiruvananthapuram rural district shared that the family was grappling with a financial crisis, with the accused stating intentions of a suicide pact involving the family.
Contradicting the narrative of financial woes as a motive, the accused’s father denied any major financial issues within the family, urging authorities to delve deeper into the investigation to uncover the true motivations behind the tragic incident.
In a chilling development, it was revealed that Afan also viciously attacked his own mother, who miraculously survived and is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries. Subsequently, the 23-year-old offender was placed under arrest and remanded to judicial custody until March 13 in connection with his grandmother’s murder.
The shocking murders unfolded in multiple locations under the jurisdiction of two separate police stations, Venjaramoodu and Pangode, with the arrest being recorded for the crime committed under the latter’s limits.
