Justice Sought as Family of Tucson Teen Shot at House Party Holds Celebration of Life Amid Arrest of Suspected Killer

TUCSON, Ariz. — The family of Daydrian Raymond Brown, a 15-year-old who was fatally shot at a July house party, gathered on September 6 to celebrate his life and honor his memory. The emotional event came nearly two months after the tragic incident, which has left the community seeking answers and justice.

Daydrian was killed in the early hours of July 6, prompting his family to launch a campaign for information surrounding the shooting, including posting flyers throughout Tucson in hopes of gathering leads. Their relentless quest for clarity saw a significant development on September 5 when Tucson police arrested 20-year-old Katraun Devon McLendon in connection with the case.

Upon receiving news of the arrest, Daydrian’s mother, Dahlia, expressed a mixture of relief and continued anguish. “I felt a little bit of relief, but there’s still so much more to uncover,” she stated, conveying her concern over an ongoing sense of uncertainty she had felt since her son’s death.

While she was grateful to see someone held accountable, Dahlia firmly believes that more has yet to be done. The shooting reportedly took place in a manner captured on video, although the footage has not been publicly released. Dahlia indicated that she had viewed the recording and feels that another individual involved in the incident should also face charges.

The sentiment for further justice echoed through the gathering. Rayanne Graves, who cherished her role as Daydrian’s “honorary soccer mom,” echoed Dahlia’s concerns. “It feels like a start, but until all responsible are brought to justice, we can’t truly find peace,” she remarked, highlighting the ongoing struggles of the victim’s family and friends.

As part of her advocacy, Dahlia aims to raise awareness regarding unsolved cases of gun violence in Tucson, mentioning victims like Randy Simmons and Nyzaiah Martinez. Her resolve is to ensure their stories are not overshadowed. “For us, just shy of two months felt like an eternity,” she explained, emphasizing the pain of waiting for answers.

Dahlia has connected with the families of both Simmons and Martinez, expressing her hope that justice will prevail for all three young men. As she continues her fight, she plans to use her voice not just for Daydrian, but for all families affected by gun violence.

Katraun Devon McLendon remains in custody with a bond set at $1 million. His next court appearance is slated for September 15, and the community watches closely, yearning for additional developments in both this case and others that remain unresolved.
