Romford, United Kingdom – Trevor Baker, 53, has been sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison for the murder of Carolyn Kemp, a woman who tragically passed away more than a decade after being brutally attacked by Baker. Baker, who was already serving time for the attempted murder of Kemp, will now face an additional five years and eight months behind bars. Kemp, who was 34 at the time of the attack, died from her injuries nearly 13 years after the initial incident.
Following a guilty plea to murder after Kemp’s death, it was revealed that Baker had attacked her at his address on Walmer Close in Romford back in 2009. Kemp had left Baker six months prior to the attack, but Baker, unable to accept the end of their relationship, launched a vicious assault that left Kemp with severe brain injuries, ultimately resulting in her death.
Before her passing, Kemp was a quadriplegic and suffered irreparable brain damage as a result of the attack. She eventually succumbed to aspiration pneumonia in 2022, directly linked to the injuries inflicted by Baker. A forensic post-mortem examination confirmed the causal link between the initial attack and Kemp’s tragic death.
Baker was formally charged with murder in December 2023 and entered a guilty plea at the Old Bailey on March 22. Kemp’s family expressed profound grief, with her mother describing her as a “sweet little girl” and reflecting on the immense loss suffered by the family. The attack not only affected Kemp but also had long-lasting impacts on her two children, depriving them of the opportunity to be nurtured and loved by their mother.
Despite the years that have passed, Kemp’s family believes that Baker remains a threat to women and expressed hopes that his conviction and sentence would serve to protect others in the future. Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen commended the guilty plea, sparing Kemp’s loved ones from the ordeal of a trial and recounting the horrific details of the attack. The sentencing of Baker brings a modicum of closure to Kemp’s family and friends, who continue to mourn her loss.
