Tow Law, England – A man has been sentenced to 36 weeks in prison for assaulting a police officer, leaving the officer temporarily blind in one eye in Tow Law, England. The incident occurred as PC Josh Elliott was investigating a suspected stolen car in the Co-op car park. Upon encountering 24-year-old Jack Oughton in the street, Oughton violently attacked the officer, punching, headbutting, kicking, and attempting to choke him.
During the altercation, PC Elliott was able to activate his emergency button, and a member of the public came to his aid in restraining Oughton until backup arrived. Despite sustaining injuries including a concussion, a fractured nose, and temporarily losing vision in his left eye, PC Elliott successfully apprehended Oughton. Although his eyesight has since returned, the officer was left with severe injuries.
Oughton, who had no fixed address, was found in possession of a Stanley knife and nitrous oxide canisters. He faced charges for Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm, driving without a license or insurance, possession of a bladed article, and possession of a Class C drug. Oughton admitted to all charges in court and received a 36-week prison sentence along with additional time for a previous robbery conviction.
Neighborhood Inspector Mike Sammut commended PC Elliott for his courage during the attack and praised the swift action taken by members of the public who intervened. Sammut emphasized that such violent behavior will not be tolerated in their community and expressed relief that Oughton is once again incarcerated. The knife and drugs confiscated from Oughton will be destroyed, ensuring they do not pose a threat to public safety.
