Indianapolis, Indiana – A tragic shooting outside a bar on the east side of Indianapolis left one man dead and five others injured, including an IMPD officer. The incident unfolded early Sunday morning, sparking chaos and raising questions about the events leading up to the violent altercation.
The confrontation began after two off-duty IMPD officers working security at the 1111 Bar & Grille asked a patron to leave following a dispute involving a woman inside the establishment. As the officers tended to a separate medical emergency with EMS personnel, shots rang out in the parking lot, causing panic and confusion among those present.
The arrival of paramedics was soon overshadowed by the sounds of gunfire, with reports of multiple individuals being shot. In the midst of the chaos, an injured man was seen being driven away in a blue Nissan as four people, including the officer, sustained gunshot wounds.
Tragically, 37-year-old Dominique Durham, the individual who was taken to the hospital in the blue Nissan, succumbed to his injuries. His father, William Durham, expressed shock and disbelief at the news, questioning how his son ended up at the hospital without medical assistance from an ambulance.
Despite the recovery of a firearm at the scene of the shooting, William denied that the gun belonged to his son, emphasizing that he had never seen it before. IMPD Chief Christopher Bailey noted that investigators were working diligently to gather evidence, review surveillance footage, and interview witnesses to piece together the events leading to the deadly altercation.
The recent change in ownership of the bar prompted IMPD to ban off-duty work at the establishment and another lounge in the same location.
