Indiana Woman Survives Six Days Trapped in Car After Crash

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A woman from Indiana experienced a miraculous rescue after spending nearly a week trapped in her car following a crash. Briana Castle, 41, had been on her way to visit a friend when she fell asleep at the wheel, veered off the road, and crashed into a ditch. For six days, Castle endured the ordeal, unable to escape or signal for help despite hearing vehicles pass by.

Castle’s father described her survival as a miracle. She managed to stay alive by soaking her sweatshirt in ditch water to drink, using the fabric to gather and squeeze out the liquid. Despite the excruciating pain from her injuries, Castle remained conscious and aware throughout the harrowing experience.

Her ordeal came to an end when an employee of a drainage company spotted her car. He contacted his boss, who is also the local fire chief. Upon reaching the scene, the fire chief noticed dried blood on Castle’s forehead and initially thought she was confused about the duration of her entrapment. However, Castle was fully aware of her situation and the severity of her injuries.

Castle’s story highlights the dangers of drowsy driving, particularly during the period following the start of daylight saving time. According to AAA, drowsy driving is responsible for approximately 18% of all traffic fatalities. Castle’s crash echoes a similar incident in Indiana over a year ago, where Matt Ree survived nearly a week trapped in his overturned truck, relying on rainwater until he was rescued.

Castle’s family has reported that she sustained several broken bones and may require surgery, but they are relieved and grateful that she is safe and out of the car. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of staying alert on the road and the potential consequences of fatigue while driving.
