Rockford, Illinois – A jury in Illinois has found 73-year-old Joseph Czuba guilty of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of 6-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume, a Palestinian American child. The attack, which also left Wadee’s mother, Hanan Shaheen, injured, was said to be influenced by events in the region, according to prosecutors.
Czuba targeted the family, who were renting rooms in his house, due to their Muslim faith and Palestinian background. The horrific incident, occurring just a week after a Hamas attack on October 7, resulted in Wadea being stabbed 26 times by Czuba, who was reported saying, “All Muslims must die.”
Leading up to the attack, Czuba made disturbing comments to Shaheen, claiming that Muslims were killing Jewish babies and insisting they move out of the house. The prosecution argued that Czuba’s actions stemmed from his fear that the conflict in the Middle East would reach his doorstep.
