Illinois Deputy Shot and Killed in Turks and Caicos Tragedy: Shamone Duncan’s Fatal Vacation Incident

Cook County, Illinois – A tragic incident unfolded in Turks and Caicos as Deputy Shamone Duncan from Cook County lost her life in a shooting while on vacation. The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force reported that Duncan, along with local resident Dario Stubbs, was fatally shot near a restaurant on Grace Bay Road on the evening of January 18. The shooting left three individuals injured, leading to Duncan’s untimely death and the hospitalization of another victim.

According to Acting Commissioner Rodney Adams, preliminary investigations revealed that gunfire was reported near a bar along Grace Bay Road. Despite the tragic outcome of the shooting, authorities stated that there is no evidence to suggest that Duncan, Stubbs, or the injured victim were targeted in the incident. As of now, no suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made following the shooting.

Duncan, a deputy with the Cook County Department of Corrections for two decades, had recently been working at Cermak Health Services. The incident occurred on her second night in Turks and Caicos, where she was celebrating her sister’s birthday at a rooftop party at Aziza Restaurant & Lounge in Providenciales. An altercation preceded the gunfire, leading to Duncan being struck by a stray bullet while attending the celebration.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office expressed deep sorrow for the loss of Deputy Shamone Duncan, describing her as a dedicated public servant and beloved family member.
