SAN DIEGO, California — San Diego Police officers are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday night in University City. According to authorities, two individuals were shot, with one of them succumbing to their injuries. The suspected shooter is still at large, prompting road closures in the area.
The shooting incident took place around 8:40 p.m. near the UTC Mall at Nobel Drive and Lombard Pl. The victims were rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds, and one of the victims has been declared deceased, leading police to treat the case as a homicide investigation.
Despite the suspect being at large, the police clarified that this is not an active shooter situation and that the mall was not affected. As investigations continue, SANDAG 511 has reported road closures at the intersection of Nobel Drive and Lombard Pl to Genesse Ave.
The area is currently teeming with law enforcement personnel, and a helicopter has been deployed to circle the vicinity. At this time, Nobel Drive remains closed between Genesee Ave. and Towne Centre Drive, with the closure expected to last for several hours.
