Homicide Investigation Underway in Hickory After 25-Year-Old Found Shot Dead in Domestic Incident

HICKORY, N.C. — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 25-year-old man early Sunday morning in Hickory. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on Main Avenue Southwest near U.S. Highway 321.

Officers discovered the victim, identified as Austin Lee Matthew Miller, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have named 32-year-old James Michael Church as the individual who opened fire.

Investigators believe the shooting is connected to an active domestic dispute involving individuals traveling from Caldwell County to Hickory. However, no charges have yet been filed in relation to the incident.
