LONDONDERRY, N.H. – Londonderry, New Hampshire police officers fatally shot an armed man after he reportedly fired a gunshot at a local Planet Fitness, according to the Attorney General’s office.
The incident unfolded when authorities responded to a call at the Planet Fitness gym on Orchard View Drive in Londonderry. Despite no injuries being reported, neighboring businesses took precautions by locking down their establishments in response to the unfolding situation.
Witnesses from nearby CKO Kickboxing expressed their fear and concern as they learned about the armed individual on the premises. The tense situation prompted residents and businesses in the area to take safety measures to protect themselves from potential harm.
Following the initial incident at Planet Fitness, the assailant fled in his vehicle but was later confronted by law enforcement on Winding Pond Road. When the armed individual confronted officers, they resorted to using lethal force, resulting in the suspect’s death at the scene.
In response to the escalating situation, the Londonderry Police Department issued a reverse 911 call and text alert to inform residents about the ongoing investigation. As a safety precaution, authorities closed off Winding Pond Road, causing inconvenience to residents trying to access their homes.
Authorities urged residents to remain patient as investigators processed the scene and gathered evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting. The road closure remained in place unless emergency situations warranted its reopening.
