CHICAGO, IL – A shooting outside Chicago O’Hare International Airport early this morning has left one man injured and prompted a significant police response. The incident, which occurred at Terminal 2, has turned the area into an active crime scene, blocking access to the airport’s lower level for arrivals.
Authorities were called to the scene shortly before 1 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered a 25-year-old man who had been shot twice. He was transported to Lutheran General Hospital, where he is expected to recover. Police have been on-site since then, collecting evidence and securing the area.
A witness staying at a nearby hotel described the chaotic scene. “I heard what sounded like rapid gunfire and saw people running in all directions,” the witness recalled. The witness also reported hearing additional shots as the situation unfolded.
The bullet-riddled glass at the terminal entrance serves as a stark reminder of the night’s events. Police have cordoned off the area with crime scene tape, and officers are closely examining a white BMW SUV and a hotel shuttle bus parked nearby.
The shooting appears to have taken place in the second lane of traffic, close to the terminal’s entrance. This area is typically reserved for taxis and other vehicles picking up passengers. The police are investigating whether the white BMW is connected to the incident, as a tow truck arrived on the scene, possibly to remove the vehicle.
Travelers with flights departing from O’Hare should be aware that access to the arrivals level at Terminals 1, 2, and 3 is currently restricted. Terminal 5 remains unaffected by the police activity.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The airport remains operational, but travelers are advised to check their flight status and allow extra time for departures due to the ongoing police presence.
