UPPER DARBY, Pa. – A man from Upper Darby faces the possibility of a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to a shooting and robbery at a SEPTA trolley station. The incident was described as a “drug deal gone bad” by officials.
According to Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer, 23-year-old Jamel Davis arranged to buy marijuana from someone at the Edmonds Avenue and Jones Street trolley station in February 2022. However, instead of completing the drug deal, he attempted to steal the marijuana from the seller. This act of theft turned into a robbery, and ultimately led to Davis shooting the would-be seller.
After the shooting, Davis fled the scene, but was eventually captured by authorities thanks to the remarkable work of the Upper Darby Police Department. Surveillance video and a series of forensic and other leads played a crucial role in locating and arresting Davis.
Davis has pleaded guilty to a number of first-degree felonies, including robbery, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and conspiracy to robbery. He is set to be sentenced later this year and faces at least 10 years in prison. Stollsteimer expressed the seriousness of the situation, stating that Davis’s actions could have potentially resulted in the death of the victim.
The case serves as a reminder of the risks and consequences involved in criminal activities, particularly those involving violence. It also highlights the importance of law enforcement and the justice system in ensuring the safety and security of the public.
