BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Officials reported a tragic incident in southeast Bexar County, where a man lost his life in a shooting following a road rage altercation that escalated at a gas station. The unfortunate event unfolded around 1 p.m. on Friday at a gas station located in the 15500 block of U.S. Highway 181 near Elmendorf.
According to a statement by Bexar County Sheriff Salazar during a press briefing, security footage suggests that a man in his thirties engaged in a heated argument with the shooter who was in a dark-colored pickup truck. The situation took a deadly turn when the man walked towards the truck, and shots were fired, fatally injuring him. It remains unclear if there were additional individuals inside the truck at the time of the altercation.
The suspect responsible for the shooting fled the scene, although law enforcement has identified a person of interest connected to the incident. The victim sustained at least one gunshot wound to the chest, as confirmed by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Despite efforts by an off-duty San Antonio police officer to assist the victim, he tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
In an effort to track down the perpetrator, the sheriff’s office plans to release images of the suspect’s truck later in the evening.
