PHOENIX, AZ – TJ Pisitola was a beacon of joy from the moment he entered the world in California. As the first grandchild in his family, his presence was cherished. His mother fondly recalls trips to Walmart where TJ, perched in the shopping cart, would greet everyone with a cheerful wave. His love for baseball and Italian cuisine was matched only by the deep bonds he formed with his family.
TJ’s journey took him to Arizona State University, where he met Chris Ann, the woman who would become the love of his life. Their marriage last July marked the beginning of a promising future together. However, their dreams were shattered on the morning of October 11.
The night had begun innocuously enough. TJ and two friends were in Old Town Scottsdale, waiting for an Uber around 2 a.m. Rain had driven crowds under the shelter of Patty’s First Avenue Lounge. As the group moved to their pickup spot, a minor incident occurred—a friend of TJ’s accidentally bumped into a woman.
Instead of letting it go, the woman and four male companions pursued TJ and his friends. According to police, 24-year-old Drew Meneses attacked TJ from behind, delivering a blow that left him unconscious. At that moment, Chris Ann checked TJ’s location on her phone and was alarmed to see it heading toward the emergency room.
Rushing to the hospital, Chris Ann was joined by family, including TJ’s mother, Gina, who traveled from Tucson. The news was grim: TJ was intubated and had not regained consciousness. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
As Chris Ann faces the future, she draws strength from the memory of TJ and the impending arrival of their child. Eight months pregnant, she is determined to carry on, supported by the love of their community.
In the aftermath, Scottsdale police arrested five individuals. Christian Molina was charged with assault and disorderly conduct, while Julius Husser, Tony Becker, and Mark Whitford faced charges of aggravated assault. Meneses was charged with second-degree murder.
Despite these arrests, the family grapples with the enormity of their loss. They find solace in the community’s support and TJ’s enduring spirit. As they prepare to welcome a new life named after TJ, they promise that his legacy will be cherished and that his child will grow up knowing the remarkable man his father was.
