Beirut, Lebanon – A car explosion in the Mezze district of Damascus, Syria, resulted in the death of one individual, as reported by Syrian news agency SANA. The victim’s identity remains unknown, but the explosion occurred in an area known for its Iranian consulate, which was destroyed in a recent Israeli strike.
Rami Abdurrahman, from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, confirmed that the deceased individual was a Mezze resident with ties to Iran and was identified as a Syrian army officer. This incident adds to the ongoing security challenges faced in Syria, with periodic blasts targeting both military and civilian vehicles in the capital city.
This explosion comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, including Israel’s recent conflict with Gaza. Following the blast in Damascus, reports emerged of an Israeli drone attack near the Syrian town of Qusayr, allegedly targeting a car and a truck on their way to the al-Dabaa military airport.
