Explosion Shakes Trenton Community as Victims Begin Recovery from Devastating Blast

TRENTON, S.C. — In the aftermath of a devastating house explosion on Airport Road, investigators returned to the scene Thursday as two victims continue their recovery. The explosion occurred Wednesday, leveling the home and leaving behind only a charred foundation.

Authorities from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office are collaborating to identify the cause of the blast. As of now, the specific reason for the explosion remains unclear.

According to the sheriff’s office, both victims are on the path to a full recovery. One man reportedly owed his survival to the quick actions of a neighbor, who risked his own safety to pull him from the flames and carry him to safety.

Residents living nearby described the explosion as both shocking and distressing. Annie Bush, who was inside her home at the time of the incident, recounted the experience. “I heard a huge boom, and then things started popping off the walls,” she said, adding that the sound reverberated throughout the neighborhood, pulling families from their homes. “My first thought was concern for those inside the house. Hearing they were safe was a huge relief for all of us.”

Community members identified one of the victims as George, a local well-known for his kindness and generosity. Kelvin Thomas Sr., who owns the Four Way Convenience Store frequented by George, remarked on the large impact George had on the neighborhood. “He was a hardworking man who would do anything for you,” Thomas said. “Everyone knew him. He’s part of our family here.”

Thomas fondly remembered how George would often visit his store, sometimes so frequently that the staff would walk outside to greet him instead of making him come in. “His absence is felt deeply. It’s hurtful, like losing a family member.”

Bush echoed Thomas’s sentiments, sharing the sense of gratitude that lingers amid the tragedy. “We’re simply grateful to be here,” she said, reflecting on the importance of community support as residents rally around the victims.

The investigation into the explosion is ongoing, with authorities working diligently to uncover the details surrounding this catastrophic event. As the community comes together in support of the victims, many are hopeful for a swift recovery and a return to normalcy.
