Gary, South Dakota – The Deuel County Sheriff’s Office has provided initial details regarding a devastating house explosion in the small community of Gary, SD. Emergency crews responded to the 800 block of Lac Qui Parle Street after reports of a significant explosion around 10:21 a.m.
The residence, which was home to two individuals at the time of the incident, sustained extensive damage. Both occupants suffered severe injuries and received immediate medical attention from emergency responders. One individual was transported by Deuel County Ambulance to Sanford Clear Lake, while the other was taken by Canby Ambulance to Sanford Canby. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, both were later airlifted to Sioux Falls for advanced medical care. Presently, one occupant remains in critical condition, while the other is fighting life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation, with various agencies collaborating on the inquiry. Responding to the scene were the Gary Fire Department, Deuel County Ambulance, Canby Ambulance, Deuel County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), South Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
