BUCKSNORT, Tenn. — A significant tragedy unfolded Friday morning at an explosives manufacturing facility near Nashville, resulting in multiple fatalities and several individuals reported missing after a catastrophic explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems.
Hickman County officials have confirmed that at least several people were killed in the blast, with emergency responders immediately deploying to the scene to manage the situation. The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident as a “massive explosion,” greatly impacting the local community.
Initially, at least 19 individuals were unaccounted for, prompting a swift search and rescue effort by emergency crews. By midday, officials confirmed that one person was located safe, though numerous others were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Authorities continue to assess the site and are working to identify and notify the families of those who were present during the explosion.
“We have 19 souls that we are looking for,” said Sheriff Chris Davis during a press briefing, urging the public to keep the affected families in their thoughts. He added, “This is a massive situation” as they navigated the aftermath of the event.
Witnesses and emergency personnel described the scene as unprecedented, with Davis stating that the destruction was unlike anything he had encountered in his career. “Can I describe the building? There’s nothing to describe; it’s gone. It’s the most devastating scene that I’ve seen in my career,” he remarked, reflecting on the magnitude of the explosion.

Accurate Energetic Systems, established in 1980, specializes in the development and manufacture of energetic products for both defense and commercial purposes. In 2020, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development hailed the company’s expansion near Bucksnort, which was projected to add around 80 jobs in the region.
