New Delhi, India: An explosion at an explosives manufacturing factory in Bemetara district, Chhattisgarh, resulted in the death of one person and left six others injured today.
The tragic incident took place at the unit near Pirda village in the Berla development block. Upon receiving notification, police and rescue teams promptly responded to the scene.
According to a district administration official, the injured individuals were rushed to Dr. BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur for medical treatment, while unfortunately one person was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The injured victims are currently receiving necessary medical care at the hospital. Bemetara collector Ranbir Sharma mentioned the deployment of fire department teams and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel to aid in the situation.
Eyewitnesses reported that approximately 100 individuals were inside the factory when the explosion occurred, leading to fears that some may be trapped under debris.
In response to the tragic event, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced a magisterial inquiry into the explosion at the gunpowder factory. Financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased person’s family and Rs 50,000 for the injured individuals was also promised.
The devastating incident follows closely after a blast at a chemical factory in Thane district, Maharashtra, claimed nine lives and left over 60 individuals injured. The safety protocols in factories across the country are now under heightened scrutiny in the wake of these tragedies.
