Valley Stream, New York – A small explosion and fire at a home in Valley Stream prompted the response of six fire departments on Saturday morning. The incident occurred on Lutz Drive, where fire officials were called around 11:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found wires on the house ablaze and noted a small explosion in the basement. Despite the intensity of the situation, no injuries were reported. One homeowner sustained a minor burn to their ear but declined medical attention. An occupant reassured that all individuals in the house were safe, albeit shaken by the event.
Throughout the evening, a National Grid crew remained at the scene conducting tests on neighboring homes. Furthermore, they carried out excavation work on a sidewalk and grass area across from the affected property. Contacted by News 12, National Grid had not provided an estimated duration for the ongoing operations.
Fire officials praised the swift response of emergency services, emphasizing the challenge of navigating basements during such incidents. Mike Colucci, a member of the Valley Stream Fire Department, commended the team for their efficiency in extinguishing the fire within an hour and a half. The cause of the explosion, however, remained undetermined at the time of reporting.
