Ex-Postal Inspector Faces Fraud Charges in $330K Embezzlement Case

PEMBROKE, MA – A former Boston postal inspector is facing serious allegations involving the misuse of funds intended for crime victims. Authorities accuse Scott Kelly of embezzling over $330,000 from packages related to a fraudulent telemarketing scheme targeting seniors.

Kelly allegedly redirected funds to lavish personal expenditures, including upgrades to his Pembroke home. Prosecutors claim he used the stolen money for home improvements like installing granite countertops and enhancing his pool area.

In addition to home renovations, Kelly reportedly spent $4,300 on Caribbean cruises and $15,400 on escorts. His role was supposed to focus on investigating fraud and scams, but prosecutors allege he exploited his position for personal gain.

The accusations extend to Kelly manipulating postal workers via email to obtain packages flagged in the scam. Between 2019 and 2023, he allegedly deceived his colleagues into handing over these parcels, ensuring victims never saw their money returned.

Further charges include Kelly using a colleague’s access code to pilfer thousands from an evidence vault, subsequently attempting to shift the blame onto a subordinate.

Following his arrest, Kelly was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond. He has entered a not guilty plea, with his attorney declining to comment on the case.

If convicted, Kelly faces the possibility of spending several decades in prison, marking a dramatic fall from grace for the former inspector.

The investigation continues as authorities seek justice for the victims of these fraudulent activities, emphasizing the breach of trust by someone in a position of authority.
