Lincoln, Nebraska – A tragic incident unfolded in a Nebraska neighborhood as 21-year-old Michelle Gonzalez lost her life in a domestic violence situation this past week. According to the Lincoln Police Department, Gonzalez was fatally shot by 28-year-old Ibrahim Alhamadani, against whom she had filed a protection order just hours before the shooting.
The harrowing event took place when witnesses reported a domestic disturbance to the police. Two women recounted seeing Gonzalez being struck by a black vehicle and intervened to help her. Unfortunately, Alhamadani, the assailant, pursued them and caused a collision with the car carrying Gonzalez. Subsequently, Alhamadani approached Gonzalez’s vehicle with a firearm, firing multiple shots at her before taking his own life.
Gonzalez sustained life-threatening injuries and succumbed to them later that evening. Prior to the incident, she had sought legal protection by filing a protection order against Alhamadani. This measure came after she reported being assaulted by him on the same day. Despite the approved protection order, Alhamadani had not been served with it at the time of the tragic events.
Lincoln Police Chief Michon Morrow emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the brief window between Gonzalez’s safety plan and the unfortunate turn of events. The protection order revealed previous incidents of domestic violence involving Alhamadani, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement of such measures.
An ongoing investigation into the matter has revealed that Alhamadani had a history of violence, with prior protection orders filed against him by other women. Additionally, he had served time in prison and jail for previous domestic violence offenses. At the time of the shooting, Alhamadani was out on parole for a prior domestic violence conviction.
