London, UK – Omar Wilson, 31, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu, who was visiting from Dubai. Imnetu was found unconscious with a head injury in Queensway, W2, on August 26, 2024, and tragically passed away on August 30 despite medical efforts.
Wilson, a resident of Napier Road in Leytonstone, claimed self-defense but was found guilty of murder following a jury trial at the Old Bailey. The investigation into Imnetu’s death involved the use of CCTV footage and DNA evidence found on a pair of sunglasses dropped by Wilson after the attack.
Police were able to track Wilson’s movements through CCTV, placing him at the scene of the crime and later at a nightclub on Gaunt Street. The discovery of Wilson’s DNA on the sunglasses and the match of his keys to his house and car further incriminated him.
Wilson’s arrest on August 28, 2024, came after incriminating messages sent to friends following the attack. In one message, he expressed remorse and hinted at the severity of his actions. Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who led the investigation, expressed condolences to Imnetu’s family and highlighted his role as a loving husband, father, son, and respected chef.
Imnetu’s visit to London for work purposes ended tragically during a night out following the Notting Hill Carnival. The swift police investigation and evidence tying Wilson to the crime led to his arrest and subsequent conviction for murder.
