Jacksonville, Florida — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that foul play is not suspected in the death of Kayla Bailey, a 34-year-old mother of five, whose body was found last week. Bailey had been reported missing several times over the last three months, drawing public concerns and attention.
A bystander discovered Bailey’s body on Jacksonville’s Westside. While police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, authorities believe there are no signs of foul play involved.
Bailey’s family and community were devastated by the news. Her mother, Lisa Lucas, expressed her heartbreak on social media, sharing the pain of losing her daughter. She described the discovery of Bailey under a tree as tragic but noted that, according to authorities, her passing appeared peaceful.
Bailey’s complications began on Aug. 18, when she was first reported missing. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office had sought the public’s assistance in locating her, citing concerns for her safety. Just two days later, she was found alive in a wooded area less than a mile from her home.
After her initial disappearance, Bailey’s husband, Joshua, was arrested for violating a restraining order she had against him. He was still in custody when she went missing again nearly three weeks later. On Sept. 7, her brother and grandmother noted she was absent from their home. Despite efforts to locate her, she had vanished without any indication of distress or intention to leave.
A missing person’s report filed with the sheriff’s office indicated that Bailey had been acting unusually, with her brother mentioning she seemed “down and not herself” in the days leading up to her second disappearance. Despite this, he recounted that she exhibited no signs of planning to harm herself.
Tragically, Bailey was ultimately located deceased on Sept. 22. The investigation continues as detectives seek to clarify the events leading to her untimely passing. The community is left to mourn a life cut short and rally around her family during this difficult time.
