Deadly Violence Erupts in Bunkprugu/Nakpanduri: Three Killed in Brutal Attack

Walewale, Ghana – Three individuals were tragically discovered dead, their bodies burned beyond recognition, in Nanik, situated in the Bunkprugu/Nakpanduri district of the North East Region, as a result of a violent attack on the community on Friday, February 28. This violent incident arose from longstanding tensions between the adjacent communities regarding the recent decision by traditional leaders to promote the Chief of Nanik to paramount status.

One of the victims was identified as 27-year-old teacher Nashiru Maijida, a local of Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality, who had been teaching in Nanik for the past two years. The charred bodies have been taken to Binde Hospital for further examination and autopsy procedures.

Reportedly, the assault on Nanik was orchestrated by members of a rival group from Bimbagu. Eyewitnesses disclosed that approximately 50 houses were engulfed in flames during the attack, resulting in significant destruction of properties throughout the community.

The unfortunate events in Nanik have deeply shaken the residents, prompting concerns about the longstanding conflict between the two neighboring communities. The escalation of violence has heightened anxieties among locals, who fear for their safety and future stability in the region.
