Ahmedabad, India – In a shocking turn of events, a schoolteacher in Nadiad, Ahmedabad, devised a twisted plan to take his own life in a way that would ensure a hefty life insurance payout for his family. Overwhelmed by legal troubles and personal grief, the 44-year-old teacher, Harikishan Makwana, orchestrated a deadly experiment that resulted in the poisoning and death of three innocent men.
Makwana’s motive for this tragic act stemmed from his desire to secure financial stability for his family after his death. Facing extortion charges and grappling with the recent loss of his father, Makwana saw no way out other than to end his life. However, knowing that his family would not receive the insurance payout if his death was ruled as suicide, he resorted to a disturbing plan to make it look like an accidental poisoning or murder.
Inspired by reports of a tantrik who had poisoned 12 people for financial gain, Makwana ordered a lethal chemical, sodium nitrite, online and concocted a plan to test it on others before using it on himself. On February 9, he offered a bottle of jeera soda laced with the poison to Kanu Chauhan, a hearing- and speech-impaired man who worked at fairs. Chauhan unknowingly shared the drink with his friends, leading to the deaths of all three men within minutes.
Initially, the deaths puzzled authorities, who suspected spurious liquor or a botched country liquor experiment. However, forensic tests revealed the presence of sodium nitrite, ultimately tracing it back to Makwana. Caught in his heinous act, the teacher confessed to poisoning the three men as a trial run for his own planned demise.
Before Makwana could carry out his final act, Kheda police arrested him for triple murder, thwarting his horrific plan. What started as a desperate attempt to secure his family’s future ended in tragedy and landed Makwana behind bars. The gruesome chain of events serves as a chilling reminder of the consequences of unchecked desperation and the lengths some may go to in times of crisis.
