Conviction: Man Found Guilty of Murdering Girlfriend and Her Dog in Marana Shooting Incident

TUCSON, Ariz. — A jury has found Taton Michael Blade Dorfman guilty of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend, Hannah Marie Rogers, and her dog in Marana last year.

The verdict was reached by jurors on September 3, following a trial that revealed troubling details surrounding the incident. Dorfman, 30, was arrested after he allegedly confessed to the crime during a call with an ex-girlfriend, stating, “I killed her! I did it!” He also indicated the presence of the deceased dog at the scene.

Police reports indicate that the distressing events unfolded at Rogers’s residence in the 5400 block of West Mosquito Drive in July 2024. Following his confession, Dorfman reportedly FaceTimed his ex-girlfriend, showing himself lying next to Rogers’s body, which bore a gunshot wound to the head, alongside a dead dog on the bed.

Marana police were alerted to the situation and arrived to find Dorfman barricaded in the home. Concerns about his potential access to firearms prompted a cautious approach by the officers. After several hours, he surrendered without incident. Upon entry, law enforcement discovered a significant quantity of alcohol and drug paraphernalia within the residence.

Both Rogers and her dog had sustained single gunshot wounds. A handgun was located on the floor near the foot of the bed, and authorities noted that Dorfman had blood on his hands and face, though he did not appear to have any injuries himself.

Sentencing for Dorfman is scheduled for October 20, 2025. The case has drawn considerable attention, shedding light on issues surrounding domestic violence and the tragic outcomes it can precipitate.

The community has reacted with shock and grief as more details emerge about the relationship dynamics involved. With the verdict now rendered, the focus shifts to the judicial process ahead, as family and friends of Rogers seek closure following this devastating event.
