Melvin Mario James Landry, 42, of San Jacinto, was convicted by a Riverside jury of killing Gilbert Wah along with additional charges for gun and great bodily injury allegations.
The incident occurred on July 23, 2020, when Wah, his wife, Octavia Wah, and Landry gathered at Wah’s residence to socialize. As the night progressed, tensions arose, leading to Wah insulting Landry with derogatory terms. After Wah physically attacked Landry, the defendant retrieved a handgun and fatally shot Wah in the heart.
Despite attempts by Octavia to intervene, Landry fled the scene but later surrendered to authorities. Court records revealed that Landry had a prior misdemeanor conviction for driving under the influence in Riverside County and a felony conviction in another jurisdiction.
