Valdosta, Georgia – Two individuals have been arrested following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a woman after being struck by a vehicle last weekend. The Valdosta Police Department reported that the incident took place at the Ora Lee West Homes where a fight escalated, leading to the fatal outcome.
According to authorities, Treesy Mensah, 50, and Jakia Mensah, 25, were involved in the altercation that ultimately led to Treesy’s death. Detectives discovered that Jakia had been engaged in a fight where her cell phone and car keys were taken by the suspect. In an attempt to defend herself, Jakia pulled out a knife and began assaulting the suspect as he tried to force her into a vehicle.
As the suspect fled the scene in Jakia’s car, Treesy Mensah intervened and was struck along with Jakia and a 13-year-old by the vehicle. The 13-year-old sustained minor injuries in the incident. The suspect later called 911 to report the incident and was found near a relative’s home, where he was subsequently taken into custody.
A subsequent autopsy revealed that Treesy Mensah’s death was a result of injuries sustained from being struck by the car. The suspect, identified as Malik Crumpton, 24, of Valdosta, has been charged with multiple felonies including murder, homicide by vehicle, theft, robbery, hit and run, criminal vandalism, and cruelty to children. Additionally, Jakia Mensah has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.
Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan expressed condolences to Treesy’s family and friends, calling the incident a tragic event that could have been avoided. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department Bureau of Investigative Services.
