Bully Jailed for Coercive Abuse Leading to Broken Arm: Nottingham Man’s Violent Reign of Control

Nottingham, United Kingdom – A coercive “bully” from Basford has been sentenced for a series of abusive actions culminating in a violent assault on his ex-girlfriend. Ryan Burrell used controlling and coercive behavior to manipulate his victim, threatening to harm himself if she left him and sending over 500 threatening text messages. The abuse occurred over several months, with Burrell destroying property and physically assaulting the woman.

The situation escalated on November 25 in Bestwood, where Burrell violently punched his ex-girlfriend, causing her to fall and break her arm. It was only after the victim bravely contacted the police and revealed the extent of the abuse that Burrell’s actions were brought to light. The victim, in a personal impact statement, detailed the ongoing trauma and fear she experiences as a result of Burrell’s behavior.

Burrell pleaded guilty to charges of causing grievous bodily harm, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, threatening to disclose private media, and causing criminal damage. He was sentenced to two years and five months in jail, accompanied by a five-year restraining order forbidding contact with the victim. Detective Sergeant Stacey Hardstaff of Nottinghamshire Police condemned Burrell’s actions, highlighting the emotional and physical harm he inflicted on the victim.

The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of domestic abuse and the importance of speaking up against such behavior. The hope is that Burrell’s sentencing will provide some solace to the victim and encourage others experiencing similar situations to seek help. The police emphasize their readiness to assist anyone facing domestic abuse, urging prompt reporting of incidents to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.

It is essential to remember that seeking help and reporting abuse is a crucial step towards ending the cycle of violence.
