A man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for assaulting his partner in East Kilbride, Scotland. Christopher Meikle, 32, appeared in Hamilton Sheriff Court where he admitted to the assault and threatening or abusive behavior towards the woman at a residence on Trinidad Way on July 30, 2021.
According to court proceedings, Meikle shouted, swore at the woman, and chased her outside the house. After catching her, he pressed his head against hers, shoved her, causing her to fall, and then dragged her along the ground, kicking her as he did so. He also pulled her hair, tugged at her handbag, and ripped her clothing.
In addition to the assault, Meikle also subjected police officers to sexual comments and threats after his arrest. He was handed a five-year non-harassment order, prohibiting any contact with the woman.
The jail term was backdated, as Meikle had been in custody since an initial court appearance on July 31. The severity of the assault and his conduct towards law enforcement resulted in the lengthy sentence. This case highlights the serious consequences of domestic violence and the impact it has on victims and their families.
