Weston-super-Mare, England – A former boxer has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 19 years, for the brutal murder of a man in an attack that shocked the community. Adam Bowers, 35, was found guilty of assaulting 46-year-old Nick Bryan at a flat in Rydal Road on November 15, 2021. The judge, Martin Picton, described Bowers’ actions as displaying a “grotesque” level of violence during the sentencing at Bristol Crown Court.
Bryan’s sister, Holly, expressed the profound impact her brother’s death had on her, highlighting the immense void left in her life. The court learned that Bowers had been released from jail just the day before the murder, following a previous sentence for criminal damage. On the day of the incident, he was with two women at the flat, where an argument ensued, leading to Bowers violently assaulting Bryan before leaving with one of the women.
Police and paramedics arrived at the address the following morning upon receiving a distress call at 03:40 GMT, finding Bryan on the kitchen floor with serious injuries. He was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries two days later. Described as a “gentle soul” by his loved ones, Bryan’s tragic death left a lasting impact on his family and friends.
Detective Chief Inspector Roger Doxsey from Avon and Somerset Police expressed relief that Bowers had been brought to justice, emphasizing the complexity of the investigation to determine the responsible party in Bryan’s death. Bowers’ imprisonment ensures that he can no longer pose a threat to society, providing a sense of closure and justice to Bryan’s grieving family.
