Ahmedabad, India – The Ahmedabad crime branch has made significant progress in unraveling an Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) card fraud network, following the deaths of two individuals after medical procedures at Khyati Multispeciality Hospital. The investigation led to the arrest of six individuals, shedding light on a complex web of fraudulent activities that exploited the government healthcare scheme.
After the tragic deaths resulting from angioplasty procedures following a medical camp at Borisana village, multiple cases were registered, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City to transfer the investigations to the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch. The authorities took swift action, collaborating with a team of doctors to conduct a thorough inquiry at Khyati Multispeciality Hospital, where disturbing details of the fraud scheme emerged.
During the investigation, it was revealed that individuals had been illegally creating Ayushman Bharat cards, charging exorbitant fees per card. The illicit operation involved various online portals and communication platforms to facilitate the fraudulent activities. The culprits, including key players like Nimesh Dodiya, were arrested for their involvement in the sophisticated network that exploited vulnerabilities in government portals to produce fake Ayushman Bharat cards on a large scale.
Furthermore, the uncovering of illicit activities extended to individuals like Nikhil Parekh, an employee found to have provided login credentials for monetary gain, revealing the depth of corruption within the Ayushman Bharat card creation process. The investigation also highlighted the role of hospital personnel, with some already in custody while others, including hospital director Kartik Patel, remained at large.
As the authorities delved deeper into the case, it became evident that a substantial portion of the hospital’s revenue was derived from patients utilizing the PM-JAY scheme, underscoring the widespread impact of the fraudulent scheme. The exploitation of vulnerable patients through the misuse of the healthcare scheme led to devastating consequences, including the loss of lives and significant financial gains for the perpetrators.
In the wake of the investigations and arrests, questions arose about the accountability and oversight mechanisms governing the PM-JAY scheme, signaling a need for increased vigilance and regulatory scrutiny to prevent such fraudulent activities in the future. The crackdown on the fraud network highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of government healthcare initiatives and ensuring that they serve the intended beneficiaries without falling victim to exploitation and corruption.
