MADISON, Wis. — A violent incident near Camp Randall has left a local community in shock after the victim succumbed to injuries sustained during an unprovoked attack. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department reported the victim’s death on a Thursday, weeks after the attack had occurred.
On September 20, police responded to reports of a serious assault at a parking lot located at 15 Breese Terrace, directly across from the stadium. Authorities characterized the assault as targeted, raising concerns about safety in the area.
The suspect, identified as Keith Jones, was reportedly acquainted with the victim through their workplace. At the time of the attack, Jones was still in uniform, despite being off duty. His connection to the victim has prompted further scrutiny regarding the circumstances leading to the violence.
Jones was apprehended later that day without incident and is currently being held at the Dane County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm, robbery, and violations of his probation status. Additionally, he has a hold placed by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
As the investigation continues, police indicated that they intend to forward recommendations for first-degree intentional homicide charges to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.
