San Francisco, California – The man who brutally attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer in 2022, David DePape, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Northern California. DePape, 44, was found guilty of assault and attempted kidnapping in connection with his unsuccessful plot to take then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hostage. Despite Nancy not being present during the attack, DePape engaged in a confrontation with her husband, resulting in severe injuries.
Prior to DePape’s sentencing, Nancy requested a lengthy prison term for the assailant, which he ultimately received. The Pelosi family expressed pride in Paul’s courage to save himself during the attack and testify in the case following DePape’s sentencing. The attack took place in the early hours of October 28, 2022, when DePape broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco residence, demanding to speak to Nancy Pelosi.
Police Chief Bill Scott revealed that officers found Paul and DePape both holding a hammer upon their arrival, leading to a violent assault on Paul. Body camera footage depicted the intense moments of the altercation, showcasing the police’s swift actions to subdue and arrest DePape.
