Attack: Family Violence Erupts at Hamidia Hospital Over Death of Patient

Bhopal, India – A tragic incident unfolded at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, where a patient’s family members attacked doctors following the patient’s death during treatment. The violent outburst resulted in injuries to three doctors, including a junior doctor who sustained a head wound, as reported by the police.

The situation led to a significant decline in the hospital’s security situation, prompting doctors to request increased security measures from the administration. The incident occurred after patient Dolly Bai passed away in the intensive care unit around 1 a.m., triggering the relatives and onlookers to assault the doctors on duty.

The violence escalated when armed individuals joined the fray, causing panic among the hospital’s staff. More than ten doctors in the ICU at the time were injured as a result of the attackers’ actions, leaving the hospital staff in a state of fear. A video of the incident surfaced on social media, further highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Following the attack, the doctors lodged a complaint with the police, who are now in the process of identifying the suspects based on the video footage. The doctors emphasized the atmosphere of fear pervading the hospital and the urgent need for enhanced security measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Kuldeep Gupta, President of the Junior Doctors’ Association (JUDA), condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate and not an isolated event. He mentioned previous incidents, including the vandalism of a female doctor’s car and the presence of suspicious individuals around the hospital premises at night, despite repeated requests for improved security.

In response to the escalating violence, the on-duty doctors wrote to the Chief Medical Officer, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and calling for immediate action to ensure the safety of the hospital staff. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by medical professionals in providing care in a safe environment.
