Assault Marred New Year’s Celebration: Man Arrested After Violent Cabin Disturbance Near Glenwood

Glenwood, Canada — A 38-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a violent altercation at a remote cabin on New Year’s Day. The incident occurred early in the morning, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement and search and rescue teams.

The Gander Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received a call around 3:40 a.m. reporting that several individuals had been assaulted during an incident on Salmon Pond Access Road. Witness accounts indicated that a group of suspects fled the scene on snowmobiles after allegedly threatening to set the cabin ablaze.

In light of the challenging weather conditions, volunteers from Bonavista Bay Search and Rescue were called to assist in reaching the isolated cabin, which was difficult to access due to heavy snowfall.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered several injured individuals. Following an investigation, police arrested Robert Coles at a nearby cabin. Authorities took him into custody as he faced charges that include uttering threats and property damage.

Coles remains in custody while awaiting a court appearance, and law enforcement officials have indicated that additional charges could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

The disturbing incident highlights concerns about public safety in remote areas, particularly during the winter months when accessibility becomes limited. Local authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

As the community braces for further developments in the case, the RCMP encourages anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward. The investigation continues as police work to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the area.
