Assault: Mancunian Man Sentenced for Violent Christmas Attack on Whitby Woman

Whitby, England — A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to 23 weeks in prison following a violent incident in which he assaulted a woman inside her home. The attack, which took place just before Christmas, included physical aggression, threats, and property damage.

On December 23, Dale Blaney confronted the woman, striking her in the face and brandishing a large kitchen knife in a menacing manner. Reports indicate he forcibly took her cellphone and broke it in half while verbally intimidating her, declaring, “you think you can mess with me?” He then caused a disturbance in her residence, tossing her belongings before departing in the early hours of Christmas Eve.

Later that night, Blaney returned to the scene, knocking violently on the door and demanding entry. In fear, the victim fled to a nearby friend’s house and subsequently reached out to law enforcement for assistance.

Officers apprehended Blaney on Christmas Eve, leading to his arrest and charges of assault and criminal damage filed the following day. His court appearance on December 26 resulted in a guilty plea at York Magistrates Court.

The sentence of 23 weeks was compounded by the activation of an earlier suspended sentence of 18 weeks from a similar offense involving another victim, committed just weeks prior. Additionally, a restraining order lasting two years was put in place to safeguard the woman after his release.

PC Matt Philpott of North Yorkshire Police emphasized the serious nature of Blaney’s actions. He described Blaney as a repeat offender who targets vulnerable individuals, showing little regard for the well-being of his victims. Philpott expressed hope that the swift sentencing would convey a strong message about the seriousness with which such violent behavior is treated in the region.

The police officer also recognized the courage displayed by the victim, both in her decision to report the incident and her ongoing participation in the legal process. Authorities remain vigilant in addressing domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face appropriate consequences for their actions.
