Sydney, Australia – Seven men arrested in a preemptive police operation in Sydney’s southwestern suburbs may soon be released if authorities do not uncover sufficient evidence to justify their detention. Intelligence sources indicated that one of the individuals taken into custody was already under investigation by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO). The men, who traveled from Victoria, were apprehended as police forces rammed their vehicle in Liverpool, reflecting heightened security measures in response to recent violence.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon confirmed on Friday that while the men remain detained, authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Hudson stated that investigators acted based on information suggesting a possible violent act was being planned, adding that police would address any threat decisively. “Our threshold for risk is extremely low, especially following last weekend’s events,” he said.
