Wisbech, Lincolnshire – A man from Wisbech, Lincolnshire was sentenced to over three years in jail for violently strangling his partner and attempting to hit her with a brick. William Gray, aged 31, was found guilty of intentional strangulation, actual bodily harm, making threats to kill, and two counts of criminal damage.
The incident took place on Monday, July 17, 2023, when Gray was at his partner’s house in Wisbech. A heated argument erupted, leading the victim to ask Gray to leave. In a fit of rage, Gray grabbed her by the throat, pushed her against a wall, and into a bedroom where he proceeded to assault her.
Despite managing to push Gray out of the house and lock the door, he continued his violent behavior by throwing a brick at a fence and trying to break down the door. The victim was able to defend herself from further harm, sustaining minor injuries in the process.
Gray was later apprehended in Greatford, a village near Stamford, on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. He appeared in Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, May 24, 2024, where he was handed a sentence of three years and nine months, along with a 10-year restraining order.
Detective Sergeant Lee Lombardo of Cambridgeshire Police condemned Gray’s actions, emphasizing the importance of addressing and combating domestic abuse. Lombardo expressed hope that the sentence would offer the victim some semblance of peace and justice in the aftermath of the traumatic ordeal. The authorities remain committed to holding perpetrators of domestic violence accountable and ensuring the safety and well-being of victims.
