NEW YORK CITY, NY – A 45-year-old man, Christian Torres, has been arrested and charged with attempted robbery following a violent mugging of a 91-year-old man in East Harlem, New York City. The arrest comes after the elderly man, Hyman Silverglad, was left with multiple injuries during the attack that took place on February 1st in the Upper East Side neighborhood.
According to the New York Police Department, the attack occurred as Silverglad was walking on East 86th Street between First and Second Avenues when he was pushed to the ground and punched by the suspect in an attempt to steal his wallet. After the incident, Silverglad was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Medical Center where he received treatment for his injuries.
In an emotional interview, Silverglad, a retired attorney, and his son, James, recounted the traumatic assault, with Silverglad expressing the agony of the fractures he sustained in the attack. Despite the pain, Silverglad emphasized that he had to fight for his life, highlighting the resilience and strength exhibited during the harrowing experience.
