Redding, California, experienced a tense situation on Friday afternoon as authorities apprehended a man involved in a violent axe attack on a resident. The swift action by law enforcement, in coordination with the local community, led to the arrest of John Yu, who was wanted for allegedly assaulting a family member with a weapon.
The incident unfolded on Thursday at approximately 4:19 p.m. when Shasta County Sheriff’s deputies received a call regarding a violent altercation taking place on Manzanoaks Drive. Eyewitness accounts indicated that Yu severely injured a resident during the assault, causing extensive damage to the home. Reports stated that during the attack, family members sought refuge in an upstairs bedroom as Yu attempted to breach the door with the axe.
When deputies arrived, they observed Yu fleeing the scene, carrying the weapon. A search operation was immediately launched, involving K-9 units and aerial support from drone teams. However, adverse weather conditions hampered these efforts, resulting in Yu evading capture initially.
The victim of the axe attack was transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for multiple injuries, including lacerations and a broken forearm. Thankfully, no additional injuries were reported among the other residents present during the altercation.
In response to the ongoing manhunt, authorities issued an emergency alert instructing residents within a half-mile radius to shelter in place.
